MercedesTrophy Golf Day
Windhoek Golf & Country Club, Windhoek
Presented by M+Z Motors on 16 June 2011
The much awaited MercedesTrophy returned with powered swings following its long and successful history. The largest amateur golf competition in the world, The MercedesTrophy is now in its 21st year.
Beautiful weather permitted 50 players to enjoy a great day of golf at the Windhoek Golf & Country. The players could decorate the field with their Blue and grey striped shirts without covering it with thick jackets. This time it was the clubs that needed to drive whilst the vehicles watched in awe.
We were very proud to hand over a cheque of N$ 52,000 to Namibian Red Cross Society in aid of the Flood relief project. An amount such as this makes a big difference to the lives of many people less fortunate than us. Once again we would like to thank each sponsor and player who made a valuable contribution.
Congratulations to our winners who will represent M+Z MOTORS and compete in the National Finals in Sun City:
A-division: Corneels Jafta
B-division: Ruanda De Waal
C-division: Ernst Calitz

With a renowned international golf tournament reputation, the MercedesTrophy, reflects the brilliant connect of sports and lifestyle and espouses the premier status for the Three Pointed Star. The association of sporting prowess and lifestyle finesse has been a hallmark of the MercedesTrophy as it is regarded as one of the most prestigious events in the Golfing Calendar.
This international series is played worldwide in a three stage system - the Malaysian Final, the Asian Final and the World Final. The series starts with invitation tournaments at a local level where Mercedes-Benz owners can qualify for the national final and subsequently the regional final. Over 57,000 golfers have been striving for perfection since 1989, with the ultimate goal of winning a place at the elite World Final, which for years has been held traditionally in and around Stuttgart, Germany - the birthplace of the motorcar, where both the best individual players and the best team are decided during a three-day tournament. The World Final itself is not only a sports highlight but it also captivates people with its unique atmosphere.
As per previous years, players who qualify for the world final are those who have won the tournaments in their national or regional finals. The international character of the MercedesTrophy can be seen in its wide range of participants as every year finalists from 30 different nations travel to Stuttgart for the World Final.
The MercedesTrophy has become increasingly successful internationally in more than 50 countries for over 20 years, In testament to the huge success and growing popularity of the game and following overwhelming response received from our nationwide qualifying rounds held last year, this year's competition will be played again in eight qualifying rounds to encourage the vast sporting talent in the country.
The MercedesTrophy is an exclusive golf tournament series which has the aim of maintaining and supporting existing client contacts. Each year more than 57,000 players in over 50 countries tee off in the MercedesTrophy. They are all aiming to qualify for the World Final in Stuttgart. The client invitational tournament series is constantly expanding in line with the growth in golf's popularity in many countries and the growing numbers of Mercedes-Benz clients taking up the sport.
Origins
In 1989, Mercedes-Benz joined forces with the German Golf Association (DGV) to initiate the Mercedes Challenge Cup, a national tournament series for amateur golfers.
The format and name were changed in 1991, when the first MercedesTrophy for clients and friends of Mercedes was staged. It has been organised centrally ever since. The tournament series has now established itself as an event that spans all continents. |
